Committee Structure

GENERAL COMMITTEE INFORMATION

The committees of Safe Communities Central Alberta are formed when there are enough community concerns about an injury issue.  Members from Safe Communities Board of Directors are often the leaders to get a working committee organized.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Committee members are recruited from the community and are usually already involved in the particular prevention issue in some form or another.  The committee works to bring together all those interested participants, so they can work as a team to bring the issue to the forefront of the general community.

COMMITTEE FUNDING

The committees are largely responsible for their operating funds and are usually obtained through injury prevention grants and donations.  Safe Communities Central Alberta can provide seed funding to get the committee started, but the committee is expected to plan for and obtain their own funding.

COORDINATOR SUPPORT

The Coordinator can provide some administrative support to the committee, depending on their availability.  The Chair of the committee is responsible for the development of the agenda and appointment of the minute taker for the meetings.  The Coordinator can distribute the meeting notices, agendas and minutes for the committee. For some committees, the Coordinator will need to look after the administration of funding.
